The Duggars, famous for having 19 biological children, are actually considering adoption. They recently traveled to Asia and moved to consider adoption after visiting an orphanage in China. Apparently, the other Duggar kids are pushing them to consider adoption.

Here’s the thing: people who follow the same extremely fundamentalist faith as the Duggars don’t typically consider adoption. There are those that believe that adopted children inheirit the sins of their parents. They often site the verse Exodus 20:5, which states: “For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me.” Pat Robertson would not adopt children because he said they might turn out “weird.”

Michelle says now:

“When he [God]  gives us a child [through pregnancy], there is no doubt in our minds that is what He wants, but when it comes to adoption, we would have to know for sure that was His will.”

It will be interesting to see if they adopt. There is a growing Christian adoption movement that encourages potential parents to adopt. This may change their minds. Of course, most of these adopting families are a smidge smaller than the Duggars and their age may make it more difficult to adopt.
